LeMieux Galleries is pleased to present “Complicated Characters”, a collaborative show by artists Jon Langford & Jim Sherraden and “Paint Jobs”, new works by Rami Sharkey in the new year. The shows will open Saturday, January 6th, with a reception with the artists during First Saturday Artwalk from 6-9 PM. Master Printer Emeritus Jim Sherraden and prolific musician and visual artist Jon Langford have been collaborating since 2016. This exhibit, “Complicated Characters”, will be their fourth such show, featuring a blend of Sherraden's woodcuts and Langford's painting. The show’s title is a nod to the alter egos the artists took on during their collaborative process “Father Drogo” and “Bishop Biscuit”.
Jon Langford is a visual artist and founder member of the legendary Mekons punk rock band from Leeds, UK. Since moving to Chicago in the early 1990s, Jon has pursued a delicate balancing act between art and music and showed his work regularly at LeMieux Galleries in New Orleans, as well as contributing cover artwork for editions of Offbeat Jazzfest Bible.
Jim Sherraden curated the Smithsonian exhibit of hatch show print at Tulane University in 2009, was a featured guest on Nick Spitzer's AMERICAN ROUTES, and was included in a LeMieux Galleries juried show in 2021. For his contributions as an artist and to the preservation of culture in the southeast, Sherraden was awarded the 2013 governor’s award for Distinguished Artist by the state of Tennessee.
“Paint Jobs” will be Rami Sharkey’s first solo exhibition at LeMieux galleries in our Alcove gallery. Sharkey's most recent paintings are a blend of abstractions and
Pop Art. Created in New Orleans in 2023, the show will feature new works on paper as well as canvases.
