About this Event

The ‘Le Monde sans fin’ exhibition is a visual adventure based on the comic book of the same name by Jean-Marc Jancovici and Christophe Blain (Dargaud, 2021), which invites visitors to reflect on ecological and climate-related issues, such as renewable energy and food supplies. The best-selling book in France in 2022, the comic book has now sold over a million copies. This dazzling success has not escaped the attention of the Institut français NL, which has decided to devote an exhibition to it. Since March 2024, the general public has been invited to come and discover twenty-six large posters in French and Dutch from Le Monde sans fin, free of charge, at one of the Institut français NL’s partner institutions, who host the exhibition in turn. Blurring the boundaries between between art and science, this exhibition is part of a series of events on the theme of energy transition organised in 2024 by the Institut français NL.

After Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and Amsterdam, the travelling exhibition ‘Le Monde sans fin’, organised by the Institut français NL, will be stopping in Groningen on 19 November 2024, from 6pm to 9pm at the House of Connections of the University of Groningen. The opening will commence with an introduction by doctoral students:

Adrien Chanteloup, French doctoral student in environmental psychology at the University of Groningen

Adrien Chanteloup focuses on citizens’ participation in energy transition, and, in particular, on the creation of energy communities in Europe. He explores how these local initiatives can contribute to sustainable development. He will present the impact and reception of the comic book ‘Le Monde sans fin’, as well as the treatment of energy transition issues in this best-selling book.

Ceciel Nieuwenhout, Assistant Professor of Energy Law at the Centre for Energy Law and Sustainability in Groningen

Her current research focuses on two areas: the legal aspects of energy transition in the building sector, and the legal aspects of the development of (offshore) HVDC networks and their interoperability. Dutch national Ceciel Nieuwenhout will also reflect on the future of our energy systems in France and the Netherlands, as well as the agreements and close cooperation that exist between these two countries to facilitate ecological transition. The opening of the exhibition will conclude with drinks.
