About this Event
Inherited: We Are But One Thread is a collective exploration of how histories are carried across generations through storytelling, resistance, and ongoing acts of reclamation.
This exhibition engages with the lasting impact of the partition of India and Pakistan, systemic injustices faced by Indigenous Peoples across Turtle Island, and historical persecution by Christian institutions against marginalized communities. Together, these histories form interconnected threads of inheritance that continue to shape identity and collective memory.
Rather than focusing solely on violence and loss, Inherited approaches inheritance as an active, evolving process. It considers how erased narratives can be reclaimed, and how silence can be challenged through reflection, questioning, and transformation.
Each thread strengthens through its connection to others. The exhibition asks how inherited histories can be unraveled and re-woven into new understandings of identity and belonging.
Over the past eight months, these talented emerging artists have developed ambitious new work through mentorship, studio practice, workshops, and community engagement. Their final exhibition showcases the creativity, experimentation, and growth fostered through this residency experience.
