FOMU presents Belgium’s first major solo of the American artist Cindy Sherman. Featuring more than 100 works from the 1970s to the present, the exhibition offers an exciting overview of this leading contemporary artist’s work.
Cindy Sherman - Anti-Fashion is realised by the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart in cooperation with Cindy Sherman’s studio in New York and her gallery Hauser & Wirth.
Cindy Sherman – Early Works 1975-1980 is developed in collaboration with Gabriele Schor, Founding Director of the VERBUND COLLECTION, Vienna.
FOMU’s Cindy Sherman exhibition is part of ENSOR 2024, a year-long programme marking 75 years since James Ensor’s death. Like Ensor, Sherman expresses her critical take on social conventions through masks and disguises.

FOMU pesenteert de eerste grote solotentoonstelling van de Amerikaanse kunstenaar Cindy Sherman in België. Met meer dan 100 werken van de jaren 1970 tot nu geeft de tentoonstelling een uitgebreid overzicht van haar werk als toonaangevende hedendaagse kunstenaar.
Cindy Sherman - Anti-Fashion is gerealiseerd door de Staatsgalerie Stuttgart in samenwerking met Cindy Shermans studio in New York en haar galerij Hauser & Wirth.
Cindy Sherman – Early Works 1975-1980 is samengesteld in samenwerking met Gabriele Schor, de stichtende directeur van de VERBUND COLLECTION, Wenen.
FOMU sluit aan bij het feestjaar ENSOR 2024 door de vraagstukken uit Ensors oeuvre te vertalen naar een hedendaagse artistieke context. Sherman staat net als Ensor bekend om haar kritische commentaar op maatschappelijke conventies door middel van maskerades.
