Galerie Eric Mouchet Brussels is thrilled to present Hard Edge, Soft Core, the very first solo exhibition of French artist Samir Mougas in our Brussels space.
Bringing together sculptures, ceramics and paintings for the first time, the exhibition offers a comprehensive look at a practice built over more than twenty years — one driven by an insatiable curiosity for everyday objects, technological imaginaries and the friction between industrial design and handcrafted matter.
At the heart of the show, the eponymous series 'Hard Edge Soft Core' (2019) presents over twenty glazed stoneware sculptures: car hubcaps cast in ceramic and covered in intense, unexpected colours, suspended between formal rigour and organic sensibility. Alongside them, monumental machine-sculptures from the series Intelligences ambiantes — generated from AI prompts and brought to life in resin, wood and acrylic paint — conjure imaginary assembly lines and alimentary dystopias. Completing the exhibition, a selection of paintings on canvas and paper explores the same obsessions through geometry, repetition and colour.
Shown together for the first time, these three bodies of work reveal the deep coherence of an artist who moves freely between media, registers and references — from science fiction to car tuning, from industrial foundry to glazed ceramics — without ever being confined to any one of them.
