About this Event

This event will take place in room 3.09/10 in The Institute of Sport building.

We want to create an environment in which all staff and students understand the contribution that they are making to our excellent research, and we want to ensure that these contributions are enabled and recognised. That’s why a major part of the new Research Strategy is an emphasis on embedding a positive, inclusive and empowering culture of research across the University.

To take this work forward we are having conversations with our community about research culture. We want to understand more about the opportunities and challenges that we have as part of this exciting agenda and we want to create a roadmap towards embedding a positive culture of research across the University.

To help us with this work we are convening three conversations themed around different aspects of research culture.

This conversation is around the theme of Open Research and Responsible Assessment and is co-convened by:

Jennifer Bayjoo, Head of Open Research in Library and Cultural Services
Professor Deborah James, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Health and Social Care
Professor Neil Reeves, Director of Research for the Faculty of Science and Engineering

It is fundamental that the knowledge we generate is shared widely because this helps us to advance discovery and deliver wider impacts. Open research reinforces our commitment to research integrity and helps us to build trust in our data and our results. We must also ensure our research and innovation is responsible and play our part in meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goals whilst focusing on fair and transparent assessment practices.

If you’re interested in open access, open data and engagement and impact as well as the responsible use of metrics, then you are invited to join this conversation.

If you can’t attend the events, you can still get involved using Polis, an online interactive tool that will help us to collect your thoughts about research culture. You can access Polis here and follow the instructions on the screen to let us know your responses to a series of statements on research culture. These are based on our earlier research culture work and on the recent sector-wide research culture framework. You also have the option to submit your own statement which other participants will be able to interact with. You can add your email to stay informed of progress.
