SECRET MOVIE CLUB presents
Part of our OPEN MIC SHORT NIGHT series! Wednesday, June 29, 2022
LOCATION: The Secret Movie Club Theater, 1917 Bay Street, 2nd Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90021
7:30pm OPEN MIC SHORT NIGHT JUNE 2022. COMPETITION THEME: Surreal Summer (35mm, 16mm, & digital shorts)
IMPORTANT NOTE: We welcome all short submissions (you made a short twenty years ago, submit it!) as long as they follow these basic rules:
-They are 10 minutes or fewer. (We will consider 1-2 shorts a month that are over this time limit BUT 30mns is our absolute max ceiling).
-They are not intentionally mean spirited toward any group of people.
That’s it. Other than that, you can make a G rated to an NC-17 rated short on any topic about anything. You can be provocative, controversial, etc. We just have to feel there was clear artistic intent behind the short.
However, we hope and encourage those moviemakers who are up for the challenge to make a movie between today Wednesday, May 25, 2022 and Monday, June 27, 2022 at 10am (submission deadline for competition shorts) as Secret Movie Club wants to encourage moviemaking!
IMPORTANT NOTES:
***As of April 1, 2022, masks are now optional for indoor theater events if you're fully vaccinated. Anyone without proof of vaccination will be required to wear a mask for their own safety. We will continue to update our protocols with the dynamic situation. We are working to make sure we make the theater going experience the most enjoyable and safest possible.
HOW TO:
1)PLEASE BRING YOUR VACCINATION CARD (digital cards accepted).
2)PLEASE BE AWARE THAT ANYONE EXHIBITING COVID OR FLU LIKE SYMPTOMS AT THE DOOR, WILL BE OFFERED COMPLIMENTARY TICKETS TO A FUTURE SHOW AND ASKED TO RETURN WHEN HEALTHY. So please, if you’re feeling sick, just write us at [email protected] and we’ll offer you complimentary tickets to a future screening when you’re healthy. (Disclaimer under “REFUNDS” applies)
Our June 2022 theme is: Surreal Summer. You can forget about the summer part (if you want, we just liked that it was alliterative). The key is to make a short, under 10mns, and address the theme of surreal and/or surrealism in some way. As long your short was made in the time frame and creatively addresses the theme, it’s in the competition!
You will be put in the running to win the "Secret Movie Club Short of the Month" award & 2 complimentary tickets for all our events through September 2022! PLUS we'll do a video interview with the filmmaker and blast the winning short to our 60K+ audience.
Finally, we want to encourage everyone to still submit their shorts even if they aren't on the theme or were made a long time ago. These nights are community builders for moviemakers and movielovers to see their works on the big screen, get re-inspired & meet new collaborators. So submit your short even if it's not in competition.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE FOR NON COMPETITION SHORTS IS: Wednesday, June 15, 2022 @ 12pm. All filmmakers who submit by this deadline will be contacted by Monday, June 20, 2022.
SUBMISSION DEADLINE FOR COMPETITION SHORTS IS: Monday, June 27, 2022 @ 10am. All filmmakers who submit for competition will be contacted by 12pm on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.
Submit your completed short to [email protected]. PLEASE PUT IN YOUR HEADING: JUNE 2022 OPEN MIC SHORT NIGHT SHORT SUBMISSION + the title of your movie.
There is no cost to submit. All chosen movies come with 2 comp tickets to the event. We just ask that everyone else attending the ACTUAL NIGHT pay $10/ticket so we can cover our overhead/projection/theater costs so we can do more and more events like these! We'll have wine, beer, concessions, food to make the night a blast.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS FOR OUR IN-DOOR THEATER SCREENINGS
REFUNDS:
We can offer refunds up to 24 hours before showtime. Please request a refund through Eventbrite and we will process ASAP. After that, no refunds. Sorry.
However if something last minute comes up and you can’t make the screening, for whatever reason, just write to us before showtime: [email protected] and we’ll offer you complimentary tickets to a future screening. (Disclaimer: Future screening must have available tickets, cannot be a fundraiser, and must be comparably priced)
HELPFUL SECRET MOVIE CLUB (1917 Bay Street, 2nd Floor, LA, CA 90021) THEATER PARKING TIPS:
We recommend that you park just outside our theater. Remember our theater is actually in a beautiful street art alleyway in the back of the 1917 Bay Street building. You get to our entrance by taking a right on Wilson, then a right behind the building. We are the first set of black steps on the right after the big gate.
There is also a parking lot at the corner of Mateo and Violet Street, just 2 blocks from our theater, which costs $7 per car.
