What is Open Kirtan Circle?
Open Kirtan Circle is a shared circle for mantra, sacred song, and voice.
Mantras and sacred songs are one way we honour the wisdom that reveals itself as life deepens. Through sound, we give form to what we already know in our bodies and hearts. We are one!
This is an open circle. Anyone may offer a mantra, a song, a rhythm, or a moment of voice. The circle responds by singing with you, listening with you, and holding you as you meet yourself in sound. For some, this is a gentle step through fear. For others, it is simple enjoyment or rest. For others, it is a place to experiment with new forms. The decision to move to this format was to completely dissolve any remaining dualistic barriers of us and them, performer and audience, or you and me.
You do not need to lead.
You do not need to follow.
You are invited to arrive as you are and let sound meet you there.
This is not a performance.
It is a shared act of listening, offering, and being together.
This is Open Kirtan.
Perfection is not required.
Presence alone is enough.
We sing from the beloved, to the beloved, as the beloved, so all is recognised as the beloved. This is the heart of the bhakti approach to awakening, devotion to Self, lived through sound.
All traditions are welcome, including original mantras, freestyle, a cappella, drum, and everything in between. All offerings are included within this Buddha field.
