About this Event
Join playwright and author Naomi Westerman for a relaxed and accessible creative walking tour of Reading's green spaces and waterways, suitable for any level of experience. We will slowly walk and explore the natural environment, stopping at regular intervals to do fun writing and other creative exercises. Please bring something to write on and something to write with.
This workshop is for adults. Ages 16 plus are welcome when attending with an adult. Meet us outside Marks and Spencers on Broad Street where there will be a Jelly gazebo and a member of the team to meet you in a high viz jacket.
All the events at the Open for Art Festival are free to attend, there is an option to add a donation to help support the festival if you would like to and feel able to.
If you can no longer attend please let us know as places are limted and we can offer your space to someone else.
About the artist
Naomi Westerman is a multi-award winning playwright and author, and a former anthropologist. Her work has been staged at many major theatres in London and across the UK, as well as productions staged off-Broadway and in countries across Europe, Africa, and South America. Her first book Happy Death Club was published in the UK in 2024 and in the USA and Canada in 2025, and was a non-fiction best seller. Naomi will do an introduction to creative writing, the difference between writing for performance and prose writing, and explore the ways nature can inspire creativity.
OPEN FOR ART
19 JUNE - 28 JUNE 2026
REFLECT This year marks 10 years of Open for Art — a decade of artists, makers, communities, ideas and shared experiences in Reading’s largest town centre creative festival. As we celebrate this milestone, our theme invites everyone to pause and consider how creativity emerges from people coming together — experimenting, making, and reflecting. Our theme for 2026 is REFLECT.
For 10 days, we’re inviting Reading to slow down and seek out pop-up art in shops and businesses, encounter artists as they work, take part in creative sessions, and join conversations about how reflection shapes artistic practice.
Come and REFLECT with us this summer.
