This fall, join students and faculty from the Department of Cinema and Media Studies as we open classroom screenings to the public. Professor James Lastra leads discussion on two films from his course, Horror and Beyond, which takes the horror film as central to our understanding of cinema, speculating that all films are horror films. Members of the public are invited to attend and take part in the discussion after the film. Teetering on the edge of breakdown after a personal tragedy, Dani (Florence Pugh) invites herself along with her boyfriend Christian (Jack Reynor) and his grad student friends on a trip to a remote village in Sweden for a once-in-a-lifetime Midsommar festival. Their carefree summer holiday takes a sinister turn when the villagers invite the guests to take part in festivities that render the pastoral paradise increasingly unnerving and viscerally disturbing.
