Trail to Oregon is a hilarious musical comedy parody of the cult classic Oregon Trail video game. Join our family of useless pioneers (with names chosen by the audience) as they make their way out West, fighting against predators, starvation, bandits, lobsters, and the dreaded dysentery!
?
CHARACTERS:
Father - Tenor. A farmer from Illinois whose skills are useless on the trail. Loves his family and carries the pressure of not wanting to disappoint them. Optimist, but ready to throw down if needed to get to Oregon safely.
Mother - Mezzo soprano. A hardened woman with a hard past. She’s the realist to her husband’s optimist, and even though she loves her family, she also recognizes that they’re some of the worst pioneers on the trail. Prone to faking her own death.
Daughter - Soprano. She’s lookin’ for love on the trail! Daughter is a strong-willed teenager whose rebellious streak means that she butts heads with her family, but also that she’s able to get herself out of trouble.
Son - Soprano. A disgusting 7-year-old with a face like apple pie. Like most children, he’s interested in everything he sees or touches, and often, those things end up in his mouth. Truly a miracle he’s still alive. His only wish is to go skinny-dipping in Oregon.
Grandpa - Baritone. An old man, the grandfather of the wagon party who is ready to die on the trail. His incoherent ramblings may go ignored or disputed by his family, but Grandpa’s weird past may be what this family needs to succeed. DOUBLES AS Cletus Jones, long-suffering partner of McDoon (The Bandit King)
And The Rest - Baritone. An actor of many faces, this person plays McDoon (The Bandit King), An Ox, General Store Guy, Doctor, and many more. Requires an actor that can play a wide variety of characters, each unique.
