Synopsis:
Jon and Leslie, two out-of-work NYC musicians rooming together. To save money, Jon files taxes claiming they are married. When the I.R.S. investigates, Leslie masquerades as Jon's housewife, causing chaos with fiancées, mothers, and landlords.

• Jon Trachtman: A struggling musician, conniving, and the architect of the tax fraud scheme.
• Leslie Arthur: Jon's roommate, also a musician, who must disguise himself as
"Leslie" (a woman) to fool the IRS, often depicted as anxious.
• Kate Dennis: Jon's fiancée, who becomes involved in the deception and is secretly having an affair with Leslie.
• Floyd Spinner: The stern IRS agent investigating the fraudulent tax return.
• Vivian Trachtman: Jon's mother, who arrives unexpectedly.
