American Son is a powerful and thought-provoking play that delves into the complexities of identity, race and family. As an estranged biracial couple must confront their feelings about race and bias after their son is detained by the local police following a traffic stop incident. Their disparate histories and backgrounds inform their assumptions as they try to find out what happened to their son, with their worst fears hanging in the balance.
Thank you for your interest in auditioning for “American Son.” Please be prepared to do group cold readings from the script. The parents need to appear to be old enough to have an 18-year-old son. The Lieutenant is suggested to be older, and the officer younger, than the parents.
