About this Event
Open and Restorative Somatic Movement is a space for communities of the Global Majority* [people of Indigenous, African, Asian, or Latin American descent] who want to connect body, mind, and spirit for intuitive movement; and to move together in an authentic way with our full dignity. No dance or movement experience required.
In these sessions we will:
- Connect body, mind, and spirit for intuitive and authentic movement
- Explore awareness of your internal and external worlds
- Connect with others who are building new ways of being
Each session starts with a check in circle to know who is in the room and to set an intention. Then you will be guided through some short orienting and grounding exercises, and then invited to free and open movement guided by our intentions, what's present in our bodies, music, and the world around us. We will be sharing space "alone together", and always welcomed to encounters with mutual consent.
There will also be some art supplies available, sensory stations, and oracle cards.
*The term was introduced by Rosemary Campbell-Stephens in 2003 as a way to challenge the normativity of a white “majority” or Eurocentric perspective.
