A two part group program held onsite in Parkville. For first time parents who are having their baby at the Royal Women's Hospital, Victoria
About this Event

This group education course, located on site at the Royal Women’s Hospital in Parkville, provides you and your support person with expert childbirth education. The course is for first time parents who are booked to have their baby at the Women's.

Over two sessions, an experienced midwife will cover a range of topics such as:

· Signs of labour, including when to come to hospital

· Progress of labour and birth

· Support in labour

· Practical coping methods during labour

· Medical options for pain management

· Medical assistance for birth

· Understanding breastfeeding

· Safe sleeping and settling

· Communicating with your baby

· Community supports for the family

Booking tips:

· Places are limited, so look for a program where you will be around 28-34 weeks pregnant and book your ticket. Programs fill quickly - don't delay.

· Use the name of the pregnant person when you book.

· You must provide your Royal Women’s Hospital, Melbourne Medical Record Number to book. We will check you are booked to have your baby at the Women’s.

· A confirmation email will be sent by Eventbrite after booking.

Payments and Refunds

Each family is eligible for ONE ticket only. This ticket includes the pregnant person and their partner or support person

Medicare card ticket (free) – available if the pregnant person:

  • is booked to give birth their first baby
  • is public patient at the Women’s Hospital (Victoria)
  • has a valid Medicare card (or is eligible for reciprocal rights)

Patients receiving private care through the Women’s are not eligible to attend.

Medicare-ineligible ticket ($450.00) – applies if the person:

  • is booked to give birth their first baby
  • is booked to give birth as a Medicare-ineligible patient at the Women’s Hospital (Victoria)

This fee is refundable if you cancel at least one week before the first class. Some private health funds may offer a rebate—please check with your fund.

Need to cancel or reschedule?

· If you need to reschedule, please CANCEL your booking on the Eventbrite website, and then rebook into another course. PLEASE remember to cancel to allow somebody else to take your spot.

· If you can’t make it to one of your booked sessions, we are unable to offer a “make-up” session for the one you missed. Written summaries are provided for the program.
