About this Event

What does processing actually do to coffee?

Most of us have a vague sense that "natural" means fruity and "washed" means clean. But what if you could taste the same coffee — same farm, same variety, same altitude, same harvest — processed three completely different ways?

That's exactly what we're doing.

Intersect Coffee is hosting an intimate pour-over tasting featuring three lots from Stephen Nendela's Muinami Estate in Kenya's Western Rift Valley. All three are Batian variety, grown at 1,900 meters in the Cherengany hills. The only variable is how the cherry was processed after picking:

Extended Ferment Washed — Pulped, fermented 8-10 hours, then soaked underwater for 48 hours with water changed every 8 hours. Slow, deliberate, precise.

Honey — Pulped and transferred directly to raised beds with mucilage intact. 12-17 days of careful drying and regular turning.

Natural — Whole cherries dried on raised beds in thin layers for 28-35 days under shade. The longest, most patient process of the three.

This is a rare opportunity. Getting three processes of the same variety from a single Kenyan estate almost never happens. These coffees were roasted by Subtext Coffee Roasters in Toronto, one of Canada's most thoughtful specialty roasters.

What to expect:

A guided pour-over tasting of all three coffees. We'll taste blind first, then reveal the processes and talk through what you're experiencing in the cup. No prior coffee knowledge required — just curiosity and a willingness to slow down and pay attention.

Space is limited to 20 people.

This event is free. If you'd like to make a voluntary $20 donation at the event to support future tastings and community programming, we'd be grateful.
