Join us at Abbey House for a one-day workshop with detailed, step-by-step guidance in a small group setting, led by Felicity Tran, an experienced traditional upholsterer and seat weaver. This hands-on workshop offers the chance to learn a beautiful heritage craft while creating a practical, enduring piece of furniture.Throughout the day, Felicity will guide you carefully through each stage of weaving a striking Herringbone pattern using sustainable seagrass cord on a specially made solid wood footstool frame. Techniques are demonstrated clearly, with time to practise each stage and plenty of individual support to help you progress confidently and achieve a neat, professional finish.
Felicity’s teaching style is friendly, informal and highly attentive, with a focus on enjoyment, productivity and reassurance. Whether you are new to seat weaving or have some prior making experience, you’ll be supported throughout the process at a comfortable pace.
Set within the elegant surroundings of Abbey House, the workshop provides a calm and focused environment in which to immerse yourself in this mindful craft, while sharing the experience with a small group of fellow participants.
By the end of the day, you will leave with a completed, high-quality seagrass footstool to take home, along with the satisfaction of having mastered a traditional weaving pattern under expert guidance.
