About this Event
Some interactions go well and you're glad, but not quite sure why. Others go sideways fast, and you can't figure out exactly where you lost the thread.
This workshop is about getting better at both.
We'll use the lens of applied improvisation to look at three things most communication training skips: how trust actually forms between people, how status and power shape every exchange whether you notice it or not, and what it feels like to practise challenging conversations in a room where it's safe to get it wrong.
That last part really matters. Most of us only ever debrief conversations after the fact, in our heads, alone. Here, we’ll get the chance to practise in live scenarios with real-time feedback, so we can start noticing our blind spots, course-correct on-the-fly and feel the difference—not just understand it intellectually.
What we'll get into:
- Building trust with people quickly, and without faking it
- Reading the room: status, power, and what your body is already saying
- Practising real conversation scenarios, with immediate feedback
Who this is for: Anyone who wants to be more self-aware and communicate better in the moments that count. A job interview, a difficult talk with someone close, a group where you can't quite find your footing. No performance or improv experience needed at all. Just you showing up curious and open to trying something new.
What to expect: Applied improv exercises drawn from 13 years of practice. These will be grounded in human psychology, somatic awareness, and OD principles — but none of that jargon will be in the room. Small group, by design. Facilitated by Hazel Ho and Kim Tan, co-founders of The Improv Company.
Part of the On Your Feet series — Saturday morning applied improvisation workshops from The Improv Company.
