About this Event
Reginald Shepherd (1963-2008) was a poet of fraught lyric and sinewy discourse, and his death at the age of 45 stole one of the most unique verse-makers in American poetry from the late work he was sure to produce. Thanks to the replete edition of The Selected Shepherd, we can continue to hear his voice in conversation with his peers and offer his poems, to the queer and desirous among us, as a reminder of how fragile and necessary liberation is.
Join prize-winning poet and scholar, Jericho Brown (CC Fellow, 2000), and Cave Canem Artistic Director, Dante Micheaux (CC Fellow, 2003), for an intimate reading of select works from The Selected Shepherd (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2024) and a conversation on the retrospective of the important and sometimes controversial Black, gay poet, Reginald Shepherd. The reading will be followed by a book signing from Jericho Brown.
