Saturday 16 May For Nakba 78 : Oppose Tommy Robison : Unite Against the Far right
About this Event

This year central London has been given to Tommy Robinson and his 'Unite the KIngdom' rally on Sat 16 May.
The Nakba Day march and rally, which takes place every year on that day, has been denied from assembling in central London.
The fascist Robison and his supporters want to dominate the streets. They oppose and are hostile to anti-racists, muslims, Palestine supporters, refugees, the trans community, enviromental campaigners, and 'the left'. Robinson brings the politicas of hate and division onto the streets. He must be opposed.
The half a million strong TOGETHER demonstration on 28 March showed that we are the majority - not the likes of Robinson. The unity shown on the TOGETHER demonstration will be needed again in London on the 16 May.

TRADES UNION MOTION
Nakba Day Mobilisation, Workplace Day of Action & Anti-Racist Counter-Protest

This branch notes:

• That 16 May 2026 marks 78 years since the Nakba, commemorating the mass displacement of Palestinians beginning in 1948.

• The national demonstration “Nakba 78: March for Palestine” will take place in Central London on Saturday 16 May 2026, 12:00–16:00.

• A Workplace Day of Action for Palestine is being organised on Thursday 14 May 2026 during Nakba week.

• That a far-right demonstration (“Unite the Kingdom”) has also been called in Central London on the same day.

• That the recent national mobilisation organised by the Together Alliance on 28 March 2026 saw approximately half a million people march in central London against racism and the far right, demonstrating the scale of public support for anti-racist unity.

• The role of anti-racist organisations and trade unions in mobilising to oppose the far right and defend community cohesion.

• The growing role of trade unions and civil society in raising awareness of international justice, human rights, and solidarity with oppressed peoples.

• Concerns regarding links between UK institutions (including pension funds and procurement) and companies connected to violations of Palestinian human rights.

• Deep concern at reports regarding the treatment of Palestinian prisoners, including detention without charge and recent developments around legislation that could permit the use of the death penalty, raising serious human rights concerns.

This branch believes:

• That trade unions have a proud history of international solidarity and anti-racist organising, and should continue to stand against injustice, racism, and oppression globally.

• That it is important for our branch to visibly support Palestinian rights and commemorate the Nakba.

• That the presence of far-right mobilisations requires a clear, peaceful, and united response from the trade union movement and wider anti-racist coalition.

• That collective action, including workplace organising and public demonstration, is an effective way to raise awareness and apply pressure for change.

This branch resolves:

1. To support and promote participation in the Workplace Day of Action for Palestine on Thursday 14 May 2026, encouraging members to take appropriate and lawful workplace actions.

2. To organise transport (coach travel) to London for Saturday 16 May 2026

Including:

• Coordinating pick-up points in Bury and Salford.

• Working in collaboration with other UNISON branches (including Bury UNISON) and trade union partners to share costs.

Offering seats to members for a nominal donation to ensure accessibility.

3. To mobilise members to attend the Nakba Day demonstration as part of a broad, peaceful show of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

4. To support and encourage participation in the wider anti-racist mobilisation on the same day, standing in opposition to far-right organising and promoting unity and community cohesion.

5. To ensure the branch is visibly represented, including taking our branch banner.

6. To allocate an appropriate budget (to be agreed by the branch) to support transport and participation.

7. To publicise all activities widely among members and encourage maximum participation.

8. To continue to review and, where appropriate, challenge links between our employers’ investments or contracts and companies implicated in violations of international law.
