About this Event
On becoming the Beast
as a strategy of resistance
Two talks and a conversation between Julius Thissen and Simon(e) van Saarloos will take place at MU Hybrid Art House on the evening of Wednesday May 13.
First, artist Julius Thissen will take us along in the process of making, the references and the choices behind his inspiring sci-fi solo exhibition Bones of Graphene, Skin of Kevlar that is currently on view at MU. After that, writer/curator Simon(e) van Saarloos will briefly introduce several strands from their forthcoming book, titled Trans Despair, circling around surgical tables and waiting rooms, and exploring where these ideas intersect with the world and characters Thissen has built.
After these introductory talks and a short break, the two will enter into a conversation that delves deeper into trans strategies of resistance in fascist times. They will speak about transition as something that never quite begins or ends. Together, they explore an infinite queerness that should not remain confined to representation, but must break free from the burden of defence.
🚪 Doors open at 7:30 PM, the program starts at 8:00 PM and runs until approximately 9:30 PM, followed by drinks.
