Stephan Petermann and Aurélie Hachez join their fellow architects and critics to discuss whether detail could be the key to ‘difference’.
About this Event

To celebrate the publication of Architecture in the Netherlands 2025/2026, the yearbook from nai010 publishers, and the special issue JOINTS & DETAILS from architecture magazine A+, yearbook editor Stephan Petermann and A+ guest editor Aurélie Hachez join invited architects and critics to discuss whether details could be the key to ‘difference’ in Europe’s increasingly uniform architecture. This event is part of the Exchange in Practice programme, in collaboration with the Flanders Architecture Institute.

In his essay in the 39th yearbook Architecture in the Netherlands, architect, Volume magazine editor-in-chief and yearbook co-editor Stephan Petermann describes the increasing uniformity of European architecture. In the themed issue that she edited for *A+*, architect Aurélie Hachez focuses on “the small, the precise, the careful: the constructive detail as a thought process and as a bearer of meaning, beauty, and craftsmanship.” In this event, Petermann and Hachez will talk to several architects who grew up in an increasingly connected Europe. Can they make a difference in their designs with their eye for detail?

For almost 40 years, *Architecture in the Netherlands* has provided an indispensable overview, with independent editors presenting unique projects completed in the previous year that describe developments in Dutch architecture. The Belgian architecture magazine *A+* shapes and fuels discourse on contemporary Belgian architecture, urban planning and landscape design, reflecting on the architect’s ever-changing role and responsibilities. This discussion has been organised in partnership with nai010 publishers and *A+*, as part of the Exchange in Practice programme.
