Omelas's Debut Performance
Glasgow — March 19, 2026 — At 3:00 PM, the newly formed ensemble Omelas will take the stage for their debut performance, an evocative musical tribute to the life and extinction of the Kauaʻi ʻōʻō bird.
The concert serves as both a debut show for the ensemble, along with a memorial performance, where the ensemble will create a musical narrative through a distinctive sextet of musical instruments, ranging from the captivating vocal arrangements to the unique musical compositions of the ensemble. The musical performance will be a direct response to the 1987 recording of the last male Kauaʻi ʻōʻō, where the ensemble will translate the final, lonely song of the Kauaʻi ʻōʻō into a rich tapestry of sound.
Omelas is a multi-instrumental ensemble of musicians who have come together to focus on environmental storytelling, blending the components of classical composition and the raw, natural sounds of the environment. By blending a multitude textures of with delicate interplay of the birdsong, the group creates "living soundtracks" for forgotten histories.
