Join Professor Clare Melhuish of UCL’s Urban Laboratory to discuss the legacy of London's post-Olympic east end, comparing it with the anticipated outcomes of Paris 2024.

This talk will explore the evolving concept of 'legacy' in the context of these Olympic Games, emphasising key urban outcomes like social inclusion and environmental sustainability. While both London and Paris have promoted these goals, their approaches differ significantly. London’s experience since 2012, marked by a rise in urban poverty indicators such as rough sleeping and food banks, raises important questions about the true impact of such mega-events.

Professor Melhuish will examine whether these Games can foster more equitable and ecological urban development, reflecting on the broader concept of 'engaged urbanism' central to UCL Urban Laboratory's work.
