Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training - Tier 2 in Taunton

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Tier 2 Training on Learning Disability and Autism is named after Oliver McGowan, whose death shone a light on the need for health and social care staff to have better training.

The Health and Care Act 2022 introduced a requirement that regulated service providers must ensure their staff receive learning disability and autism training appropriate to their role.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is the standardised training that was developed for this purpose and is the government's preferred and recommended training for health and social care staff.

Together, we can prevent the many avoidable deaths like Oliver’s from happening again.

Skills for Care has announced the funding rules and banding for the mandatory Oliver McGowan Training on Learning Disability and Autism (OMMT).

This is a fantastic opportunity for all organisations registered under the Learning and Development Support Scheme (LDSS) to access funding. You can claim £90 per person.

To access the training

Attending the Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disabilities and Autism - Tier 2 in-person training will increase your curiosity, capability and will remind you of strategies and resources that can improve communication and patient experience.

This training forms the second part of the Tier 2 standardised training. The sessions are delivered by a trained facilitator alongside an autistic co-trainer and a co-trainer with a learning disability.

To receive a badge on completion of the Tier 2 training (which can be both physical and digital for email signatures), you must complete the Oliver McGowan E-Learning and the in-person Tier 2 Training.

Arriving by Train

Exit the station via the exit on Platform 2. Firepool Centre for Digital Innovation is opposite the Station Car Park. Cross Trenchard Way at the pedestrian crossing.

Arriving by bike

There is a large, covered bike store in the car park at the rear of the Centre. This is accessed via Canal Road. Press the buzzer at the back door and someone will come down to unlock the bike store.

Arriving by car

Taunton Station Car Park, Station Approach, Taunton TA1 1QP (2 mins walk to FCDI).

From Kilkenny Car Park, walk downhill towards the station, under the railway bridge, turn left up Station Approach. Firepool Centre for Digital Innovation is opposite the Station Car Park. Cross Trenchard Way at the pedestrian crossing. Kilkenny Car Park, Taunton

Leave the car park via the path next to the petrol station. Cross Priory Bridge Road and walk down Canal Road, from which Firepool Centre for Digital Innovation is accessed. Upon arrival, please press the buzzer at the back door of the Centre. Morrisons Car Park Taunton - from £5.20 per hour

Centre Car Park

There is no general parking available; however, spaces can be reserved for Blue Badge holders by prior arrangement with the Centre. The Centre car park is accessed via Canal Road.
