About this Event

If you want to learn more about crime writing, then this event is a must!

Brian McGilloway was born in Derry, Northern Ireland in 1974. After studying English at Queen's University, he taught in St Columb's College where he was Head of English before taking up a post in Holy Cross College in Strabane. His first novel, Borderlands, was hailed by The Times as 'one of (2007's) most impressive debuts.' The second novel in the series, Gallows Lane, was shortlisted for the 2009 Irish Book Awards/Ireland AM Crime Novel of the Year. The third Devlin, Bleed a River Deep, was selected by Publishers Weekly as one of their Best Books of 2010. The first DS Lucy Black novel, Little Girl Lost, became an Amazon Kindle No 1 Bestseller in 2013 and was a New York Times and USA Today bestseller in 2014. Two further novels were published; Hurt in 2013 and Preserve the Dead in 2015. Brian lives near the Irish borderlands with his wife and their four children.

After a long career in education, Linda Hagan looked forward to being able to indulge in her passion for crime fiction. A fan of the golden age of crime writers as well as modern authors, a "meet-the-author" event at her local library birthed a desire to try her hand at writing a book based in Northern Ireland. Lockdown gave her the chance to undertake a creative writing course and the time and space to put it into practice. The result is The Perfume Killer, the first in a series featuring DCI Gawn Girvin, a character who has been living in her imagination for over twenty years waiting to be brought to life. Linda lives in Carrickfergus on the shores of Belfast Lough with her husband and crazy rescue dog, Hope. Her hobbies are watching Formula 1, steam trains, researching the family history and spending time with her two grandchildren.

James Murphy is a Northern Irish writer working within the genre of crime fiction. He is best known for his Farset Investigations Belfast detective series and a gripping psychological thriller series featuring investigative psychologist Dr. Carolyn Harkin, Write Me A M**der and How To Be Dead. He also teaches crime fiction writing classes and is an active member of the Crime Writers Association both as Master Convenor of the Irish Chapter and as Library Champion for Northern Ireland. He is also the host of the hugely successful podcast, A Life Of Crime (Writing) with James Murphy, and hosted the popular radio show, Crime Scene with James Murphy on Belfast 247. He is currently working on the third Dr. Carolyn Harkin novel which is due for release in October 2026
