About this Event


Come join Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust as we paddle through the Okura Estuary in partnership with Auckland Sea Kayaks and Marine Education and Recreation Center. Explore this stunning marine reserve with experienced guides. Learn more about the local wildlife and ecology that call Long Bay - Okura home and how we look after and protect this critical ecosystem. This event is generously funded by the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board and Foundation North.

🚣 Kayaking – Explore Okura Estuary through a guided kayaking session with Marine Education and Recreation Center (MERC) as we learn about waterway protection, observe local wildlife, and threats to our local environment.

🌞 Weather call -

Sea conditions permitting - we will run with light rain. A final weather call will be made the afternoon prior to the event. Cancellation due to weather will be communicated via email and eventbrite.

🎟 Registrations -

  • Minimum age for kayaking is 7 years old and for paddle boarding it is 10 years old.
  • Children aged 7-13 need to have a confident adult in the back of their kayak, or have an adult join them on the water for paddle boarding. Children under 16 need an adult guardian present at the event.
  • Please note that the maximum weight for the kayaks and paddle boards is 120kg per person.
  • Expect to spend 1.5hrs kayaking/paddle boarding, with the remaining time for briefings and evaluations.
  • You are required to pre register for all on-water activities.

What to bring -

  • Clothing suitable for paddling (please no jeans)
  • Footwear you do not mind getting wet and muddy
  • Water bottle
  • Rain coat
  • Hat, sun glasses and sunblock

What will be provided -

  • Double sit on top kayaks
  • Paddle boards
  • PFD
  • Paddles
  • H&S equipment
  • Kayak/Paddle board instructors

Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust runs a series of free and subsidised events over the summer months - we rely on your support to make them happen. We appreciate donations, either cash/eftpos on the day, online or by giving a koha of your time volunteering at a future event.

❌ Cancellation policy -

If you give less than 24 hrs notice when cancelling your registration or you no show without a valid excuse (i.e COVID, or other illness/emergency) then you may be sent an invoice of $20 per person. This is to ensure spaces do not go to waste and that people do not miss out on attending this free event.
