Ojos de Dios are a frequent sight within the Pueblos of New Mexico. They embody a faith in an all-seeing Providence and are believed to possess the ability to perceive an extraordinary sight. An eye that can access realms of understanding beyond the reach of the physical eye.
During the Spanish colonial era, from the 16th to the 19th centuries, Ojos de Dios were commonly placed in areas where people worked or along trails they traveled. These served as symbols of protection and guidance along daily paths and routines.
