This is a four-hour workshop. It’s a “crash course” geared toward students that have had little to no
training in the use of oil painting. It can also be an expansive guide to students more familiar with oils.
We will work with a simple color palette, going over the properties of oil paints, which ones are good
and not so good and how they are mixed. We will also discuss which brushes and canvases are best to
use, touching on the pros and cons of each.
There will be lots of demonstration that guides the student through the seemingly mysterious world of
oil painting, wherein they learn just how easy it is to paint in this medium.
Finally, students will be encouraged to experiment with all of the oil paint tools available to create a
work of art that they can take home the same day.
Students should bring smocks or wear old clothes.
