About this Event
THIS IS A 3 NIGHT/2 DAY Residency - EACH BOOKING COVERS THE WHOLE PERIOD (Eventbrite settings don't allow us to show you this, but it's true!) 17th to 20th July....
The exact venue will be shared with attendees once booking has been made.
The theme of this residency is Oikos: meaning household or home, Oikos describes an ecological home where humans and non-human creatures share membership, implying mutual nurture and obligation. 10 camping pitches, plus 3 interior double bedded rooms for couples, plus two separate interior single beds also available, this is the ultimate summer camp residency where artists are invited to turn their hands to making temporary homes, camps, dens, nests sanctuaries and shelters across the 100 acres of wild land. 17th - 20th July. Breakfast and evening meals provided.
Join Jay Levontine and Laura Denning and team, to explore the themes arising from Oikos: an ancient Greek term for "home" or "household," increasingly used in contemporary ecology and philosophy to mean the "more-than-human" world—the shared, interconnected habitat of all living creatures, including plants, fungi, animals, and natural systems, rather than just humans. This approach highlights that humans are part of a larger "mesh" or "blended ecotone," where all life forms are intertwined. We will focus on coexisting in balance and actively regenerating ecosystems rather than just avoiding harm. This residency challenges the human-centered (anthropocentric) view of the world, emphasizing that survival depends on the health of the entire ecosystem.
The Mothership is a hidden artists home, lost in the wilds of Dorset, close to Bridport and the coast. A beautiful house, nestled in 100 acres of wild land, with woodland, small lakes and open countryside to explore. A gentle programme of shared activities with plenty of time and space to explore your own paths will be organised. More information about Jay, Laura, Caroline and team, plus further details about what to expect will be added shortly.
NB: Due to Eventbrites settings it is not possible to show that this residency runs from FRIDAY AFTERNOON to MONDAY MORNING, but it does. Each 'ticket' is for the whole weekend - there are no day tickets (it's a residency, not a festival!).
