and historic neighborhoods in Cleveland!
About this Event
The interactive walking tours are led by knowledgeable guides that will share fascinating facts about historical assets and key figures that helped make Cleveland a special place. You'll learn about architecture, cultural and neighborhood development, historic preservation, and Cleveland's role in American history. Along the way, you'll meet important figures from Cleveland’s past, portrayed by actors and actresses, who will share their stories with you.
About the tour: In the early 19th century two competing settlements vied for prestige and investment on both sides of the Cuyahoga River; Cleveland to the east and Ohio City (or City of Ohio as it was known at its 1818 founding) to the west. Ohio City’s early civic, religious, ethnic, and commercial history was significant. Its historic architecture and the diversity of the urban environment has brought new vitality to the neighborhood.
The Market District Route centers on the historic core of Ohio City, anchored by West Side Market and landmarks like St. Patrick Church and St. Ignatius High School. Surrounding streets lined with 19th-century buildings tell the story of a vibrant immigrant community, where historic storefronts and institutions continue to shape a lively, connected neighborhood.
The Ohio City: Market District Tour meets on Tuesday at 6 pm in the parking lot adjacent St. Patrick Church (3602 Bridge Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44113). Please arrive 15 minutes early as the tour starts promptly.
Street Parking is available in the lot and along the streets.
RESERVATIONS are requested but not required, walk-ups the day of tour are welcomed.
