About this Event
During one hot Texas summer at a Charismatic Christian camp, an idealistic counselor works to shepherd the senior girls' cabin along their journey to make an authentic connection with something bigger than themselves, only to be confronted with disillusionment of her own faith in this visceral ode to female desire, submission, rebellion, and growing up in a religious culture centered on purity.
Comedically captures many niche Bible camp experiences and archetypes while exploring the impact of purity culture from multiple perspectives with tenderness and nuance. With fresh, authentic dialogue and deeply realized characters, this urgent and timely work examines how young women claim agency over their bodies, their faith, and their futures.
Winner of the Gene Gabriel Moore Playwriting Award, "Oh to be pure again" had its world premiere at Actor's Express in Atlanta and continues to resonate with audiences as a powerful testament to female friendship, spiritual questioning, and the courage to define one's own relationship with desire and divinity.
