For as long as there is music and those who faithfully dance, there will always be a need for the Godmother of House Music, DJ Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale. Detroit’s 1st female of house music plays dance floor bangers and orchestral melodies with live music fusions. Hotwaxx Hale has made a massive impact in American music culture, whether it’s playing in famous theaters like the Apollo New York and the Fox Detroit, or legendary underground dance music clubs like ‘Studio 54,’ and ‘The Warehouse. Currently she holds residence at Spotlite Detroit, & Marble Bar Detroit. She also has an international presence, which includes performances in London, Ibiza, France, Mexico, Berlin, Amsterdam, Toronto, and across the USA.
Hotwaxx Hale is the1st female DJ who played house music on the radio in Detroit in the late 80s, and continues as a DJ to play a major role in curating the soundtrack of our lives for several decades. Thriving in the city that started techno, she somehow maintains a perfect flow by tastefully blending house and techno with funk, hip hop and Motown soul, which is why she continues to have a diverse, multi-aged devoted following. Not only has she been resident DJ for several famous Motown radio stations, but she also beat over 600 DJs in the Motor City Mix contest winning $10,000. She also has residents at two clubs in Detroit @ Spotlite Detroit as Housecats w/ Jenny LaFemme, and Lacasa Cigar Lounge. Hotwaxx currently produces & hosts three radio shows. Twisted Tuesdays at 12n deepspaceradio.com EST. She hosts every 3rd Friday a virtual show on Twitch & Mixcloud simultaneously thru Technoclub-net 4pm EST . She is one of the leaders in a daily broadcast on Blast Radio/Hotwaxx. Hotwaxx’s passion for music spills over into education for the youth and adults as well.
Since the inception of Girls Rock Detroit, Hotwaxx has been the DJ instructor helping young girls & non-binary find their way through mentorship and music.
In 2023 she accepted the position as GRDs Co-Director for the next 2 years.
2024 Hotwaxx will lead a virtual classroom for the Underground Music Academy (UMA)
Hotwaxx is the Virtual & Hybrid Director Specialist for Streamteamio with various organizations worldwide. Hotwaxx has also formed a live music group, Nyumba Muziki, which has performed at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, Detroit Opera House, Detroit 300 Conservancy and more.
Music Coordinator/DJ with Jessica Care Moore’s Daughters of Betty (Black Women Rock Orchestra). Hotwaxx has incredible production skills and has collaborated with artists like Eddie Fowlkes, Alton Miller, Kevin Saunderson, Marissa Guzman, Norma Jean Bell, Pirahnahead, K Hand, Diviniti Roxx.
Stacey is the creator and coordinator for Sheometry Arts and Music Festival launched in Detroit August 2019 returned in July 2024.
Inducted into the National Museum of African American Music in 2019 Nashville TN.
The Godmother of House continues to leave her mark and the best is yet to come.
