Enter SAMA's Great Hall, and you'll be greeted by "Pase Usted," a massive mural by Carlos Rosales-Silva. The swirling cerulean blue motif that borders the mural's two central forms—arches in golden orange and deep chartreuse—and continues along the staircase and mezzanine walkway is the artist’s interpretation of similar wave and plant-like patterns observed on vessels throughout the Museum. Using this blue curlicue as a point of departure, SAMA docent Carrie Klein traces the design's appearance from Neolithic China (ca. 2000 BC) to twentieth-century Mexico, revealing connections across time, culture, and place.Off the Wall is a curated tour series that explores special topics across SAMA’s collections. Each session is developed and facilitated by passionate docents who can’t wait to share the stories behind SAMA’s most captivating artworks and hidden gems.
