december was honored to have Tlotlo Tsamaae serve as our 2024 Guest Judge for the Curt Johnson Award in Fiction. Join us for an evening with Ms. Jamison, Joshua Levy (Award Winner), and Julie Trimingham (Award Honorable Mention), as they read from and discuss their work.

Tlotlo Tsamaase is a Motswana author. Her debut adult novel, Womb City, is out now from Erewhon Books. Tlotlo is a Caine Prize finalist. Her novella, The Silence of the Wilting Skin, is a 2021 Lambda Literary Award finalist and was shortlisted for a 2021 Nommo Award. Tlotlo has received support from the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, and her story “Behind Our Irises” is the joint winner of the Nommo Award for Best Short Story (2021). Tlotlo's short fiction has appeared in Africa Risen, The Best of World SF Volume 1, Clarkesworld, Terraform, Africanfuturism Anthology, Chiral Mad 5 and other publications. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Botswana and an MFA in Creative Writing at Chapman University. She is a 2017 Rhysling Award nominee and a 2011 Bessie Head Short Story Award winner.
Joshua Levy (Award Winner) writes in many genres. He served as CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) Writer-in-Residence. Levy is a recent winner of the Los Angeles Review Award for Fiction, the CNFC/Carte Blanche Nonfiction Prize, Prairie Fire Nonfiction Prize, SLS Nonfiction Prize, CBC/QWF Fiction Prize, Grain Short Fiction Prize, and the Curtis Johnson Prose Award. Julie Trimingham's (Award Honorable Mention) short stories have won or been finalists for prizes from terrain.org, Cutthroat, and Freefall magazines. She lives with her teenager and a little dog in the Pacific Northwest. For fun, she sings in a band.
