OFF GRID is a travelling hip hop series moving city-to-city, documenting the people actively shaping their local underground rather than the industry looking in from outside. Each episode is built from conversations and moments with artists who live inside the culture day-to-day — how they create, collaborate and push their scene forward. The Hobart episode turns the camera toward a place rarely centred in wider Australian rap coverage. With fewer visiting circuits and less outside attention, the community has grown tight, self-reliant and distinctly its own. The film follows voices across generations — Topski, Kiz, Hermit Kovacic, Grace Chia, Tommy Ray, Lachy Hamil and DunnD — tracing how a small city develops a sound, supports its artists and maintains momentum without waiting for validation from elsewhere.
Rather than a history lesson, the episode is a snapshot: the relationships, pride and creative energy that keep Tasmanian hip hop moving right now.
This event features four dynamic live performances from Hobart’s Hip Hop community, a 15 min film screening and post screening Q&A with the film makers and artists.
