About this Event
Of Cabbages– and Kings: O. Henry’s Rhetorical Imprint in U.S. and Latin America
The Williams Lecture Series in American Literature of 2026 examines the constitutive dimensions of violence in literature through what Dr. José Ángel Maldonado theorizes as the rhetorics of verticality. Drawing from narrative nonfiction, memoir, and cultural criticism in his book Falling to My Death: Vertical Rhetorics in Neoliberal Mexico, the lecture re-considers everyday acts of dying, disappearing, and living from public discourse, memory, and literary rhetorics of militarized neoliberal contexts. Join us at The Chambers on the third floor of BLUU for a lively conversation and reception to follow.
