About this Event
Ode to Music: Début – A Korea–UK Art & Music Experience
Ode to Music: Début is a cultural exchange and fundraising event hosted by United Kingdom Career Pathway (UKCP), bringing together contemporary visual art and live classical music.
At the heart of the event is a live performance alongside a curated art exhibition. As music is performed, selected artworks are presented within the space, creating a unique dialogue between sound and image. This format allows audiences to experience art in a more dynamic and atmospheric way—where visual and auditory elements interact in real time.
The exhibition is presented in collaboration with BMCA (Blume Museum of Contemporary Art), a Korea-based contemporary art institution that supports both emerging and established artists through exhibitions and international collaborations.
As part of this partnership, the event will showcase works by Korean artist Baik Soon Shil, contributing to an ongoing cultural exchange between Korea and the UK through contemporary art.
A contemporary Korean artist who transforms classical music into visual form through painting and printmaking.
She translates the structures, rhythm, and emotional flow of music into images, creating a distinctive artistic language.
Born in Gwangju in 1951, she graduated from Seoul National University, College of Fine Arts. Over the past four decades, she has held 44 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in cities including New York, Paris, Japan, and Korea.
Her works are held in major collections such as the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul Museum of Art, and Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art, as well as international institutions and embassies. Her ongoing project Ode to Music visualises over 200 classical compositions through painting, often presented alongside live performances with musicians.
Ode to Music: Début is designed as the beginning of a continuing series, creating a platform for artists and musicians to share their work while engaging diverse audiences across cultural contexts.
The event also serves as a fundraising initiative to support underrepresented and vulnerable members of the Korean community in the UK.
Funds raised will be used for charitable programmes, including career development support, educational initiatives, and expanding access to cultural opportunities for those facing economic or social barriers.
Through this, the event aims to provide meaningful opportunities and contribute to building a more inclusive and sustainable community.
Join us for an evening where art is seen, music is felt, and the two come together in one space.
