You're invited to come and see my solo exhibition, The Odd Bird, at Gallery at St Martins from the 14th to the 19th of May. I will be in the gallery from 10am-4pm daily and would love to see you. I will have my new original framed pieces plus cards and prints for sale.l use a bold colour palette and layer wool fibres with silks and other textures to create my felt work. Most of my pieces have over 50 layers of wool on them before I begin the wet felting process. Once the fires have felted and the piece has shrunk, I use a single felting needle to add tiny realistic details. The longer that you look at my work, the more details you will see. The art I create is a mixture of wet and needle felting techniques that I have developed over the past 17 years of my practice.
Birds are one my favourites to felt. In the past, I have made full size free standing and hanging birds plus many framed artworks of owls, puffins and garden birds. I love capturing their wing shapes and plummage colours with the wool fires.
In 2019 I created my first Odd Bird Tree picture that had a variety of birds needle felted on and around the tree. Since then I was commissioned to felt a similar piece for a nursery. In 2021 I created a larger piece, The Odd Bird Tree ll. For this exhibition I have created The Odd Bird Tree Ill and have hidden lots of birds in it for you to find.
