Program: "Water Droplet Refraction" by Keith KotayWater droplet refraction is the lens-like effect exhibited by the curved surface of water drops. Photographing a scene through a single water drop is a common macro technique and there are many YouTube videos which describe how it is done. However, it is possible to extend this technique to multiple drops with colorful and/or textured backgrounds, which makes the pattern of drops themselves the subject for abstract images. I stumbled upon this effect in 2008, but I did not explore it beyond a few trial images. Recently I discovered a YouTube video by Nikon Ambassador Joey Terrill, who has mastered the technique. This talk will describe my early attempts, followed by Joey's video on his implementation. Finally, I will discuss my new water droplet refraction setup inspired by Joey's video.
