Aaron Judah

Aaron Judah is a marine biologist and deep-sea explorer working at the intersections of scientific discovery, conservation, and storytelling. He is currently pursuing his PhD at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and the Deep-Sea Animal Research Center, focusing on the roles of deep-sea fishes in supporting ocean ecosystem functioning and human society.

Aaron has worked globally, studying the biodiversity and conservation of marine ecosystems, from coral reefs and kelp forests to the deep ocean floor. Through collaborations with National Geographic Pristine Seas and local communities, he has worked across the Western Pacific to document and study deep-sea ecosystems and their biodiversity. His research has contributed new geographic records and first observations of unique and rare sharks and rays, assessments of threats posed by deep-sea mining, recommendations for marine protected area management, and increased data capacity for endangered marine life. An avid science communicator, Aaron prioritises storytelling, community outreach, and co-creation in his work.
