May 8 at 8PM at Opera America's Marc A. Scorca Hall, Jeffrey Gavett performs music for baritone, instruments, and electronics, featuring Jordan Bartow, cello; Trey Coudret, bassoon; Teagan Faran, violin and viola; and David Friend, piano.Liza Lim - Boat Song (2019)
Alvin Lucier - Music for Baritone With Slow Sweep Pure Wave Oscillators (1993)
Morton Feldman - The O'Hara Songs (1962)
Horațiu Rădulescu - These Occult Oceans (1979-1982) Jeffrey Gavett version
This program is built around a new version of Rădulescu's These Occult Oceans for 17 voices, which I have created a new version of, recording 16 parts and leaving one to be performed live. It is complemented by other oceanic works. Liza Lim's Boat Song weaves together roiling bassoon multiphonics with a nautically metaphorical text based on Foucault. Morton Feldman's O'Hara Songs are an image of constantly shifting stasis, like undercurrents below a placid surface. And Alvin Lucier's Music for Baritone With Slow Sweep Pure Wave Oscillators attunes us to the subtle ways that sound waves interact, with beating that sometimes even perceptibly moves in space.
Admission is $20 suggested, students and artists pay what you wish.
