OBSIDIAN Vol. 2

Taking place on February 22 & 23rd 2025, Obsidian battle and jam weekend is a vibrant all-ages community Hip Hop and Afro dance battle & jam bringing people together to celebrate Black culture, diversity, and community.

Hip Hop is rooted in Black/African-American culture and promotes the values of Peace, Love, Unity and Having Fun. Afro music and dance comes from multiple African countries and cultures and is enjoyed and celebrated all over the world. Open to everyone, this event is Black-led and aims to employ MCs, DJs, judges, and media personnel from the Black community, and serves to celebrate and uplift this community through dance. Day one of the event will feature dance workshops and a welcome open dance cypher/party and Day 2 will see the main event battles.

Dates:

1. DAY ONE - Saturday February 22nd, 2025 | The Post at 750 (750 Hamilton St., Vancouver)
   - Workshops 11am - 4:00pm, Cypher 4:00-6:00pm

2. DAY TWO - Sunday February 23rd, 2025 | The Beaumont (316 W 5th Ave, Vancouver)
   - MAIN DAY Battle 2:15-12:00am
   - Doors Open/ALL Battlers Sign in: 2:15pm.
   - Battles (Hip Hop and Afro): 2:45pm - 10:00pm
   - After party (same venue) until 11:45pm

• Individuals who wish to battle must be present at check in (2:15pm) to confirm your spot/sign in. If you are not present at check in, your spot may be given to another person wishing to battle.

Transportation/Public Transit:

• The Post at 750 (750 Hamilton St.) is a 10 minute walk from both Granville station or Stadium-Chinatown station and close to several bus lines. Paid parking is available in the area.
• The Beaumont (316 W 5th Ave) is a 15 minute walk from Main Street-Science World Station and close to several bus lines. Paid parking is available in the area.

Battle Categories: 1v1 Hip Hop battle and 1v1 Afro battle, Cash prize + bonus gift(s)

• Please bring clean indoor shoes for the battle.

*Note: If you are part of the Black community and facing financial barriers, but would like to attend the event, please contact the organizer about subsidized tickets/accomodations.

All tickets are final sale/nonrefundable. However, please contact the organizer if you would like to try and transfer your ticket (this is not guaranteed).

Waiver of Liability Clause:

By purchasing a ticket or participating in Obsidian battle and jam, I hereby acknowledge and agree to the following terms and conditions:

1. Assumption of Risk: I am aware that participation in Obsidian battle and jam involves certain risks, including but not limited to injury, theft or loss of property, or death. I voluntarily assume all such risks and hazards.

2. Waiver of Claims: In consideration for being permitted to attend and participate in Obsidian jam and battle and I hereby waive, release, and discharge any and all claims, demands, actions, or causes of action against the Event Organizers/volunteers and the The Beaumont and The Post 750 arising out of or related to any loss, damage, injury, or death that may occur as a result of my attendance or participation.

3. Hold Harmless: I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Event Organizers/volunteers and the Beaumont, The Post 750 and their respective agents, representatives, employees, and affiliates from any liability, claims, or demands arising out of or related to my attendance or participation in Obsidian.

4. Full Understanding: I acknowledge that I have read and fully understand this waiver of liability, and I voluntarily agree to its terms. I understand that I am giving up substantial rights by agreeing to this waiver and release.

5. Governing Law: This agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of British Columbia, Canada.

I have carefully read and considered this waiver before agreeing to its terms. By purchasing a ticket or participating in Obsididan, I expressly agree to be bound by this waiver of liability.

Photo and Media Film Release:

By attending this event, you acknowledge and agree that photos, videos, and other media may be captured during the proceedings. These images and recordings may be used for promotional, marketing, or educational purposes by the event organizers and associated partners. Your participation in the event constitutes your consent to these terms.
