We are happy to announce that the next Observatory Hill Open Hill event is scheduled for June 6th. St John Lutheran College alumni will be touring the hill in the morning, but we will open the hill to the public after their visit. We also have tentatively planned for the alumni to help re-dedicate the chapel, which was built by the college in the early 1970’s. And here’s the exciting project we’ve been working very energetically; at the June Open Hill event, visitors will be able to see what the old observatory tower looked like during the time that the Winfield Boy Scout Troop 2 occupied the site. We know from old photos what the exterior of the tower looked like, but no photos have surfaced regarding the interior. Visitors will now be able to see what we believe to be a good recreation of all three floors. The Scouts occupied the site from mid 1920 until some time in 1922-1923.
