About this Event
Welcome to the OASIS Vitamin D Research Study
The OASIS Study is a 10-week vitamin D study that offers participants free white and wholemeal bread loaves for the duration of the study. Researchers are inviting healthy older adults, aged 65 and over, who eat bread most days to participate in the study. Vitamin D deficiency is a widespread issue in Ireland, particularly during winter months when sunlight is insufficient for natural vitamin D production. The OASIS study will test whether including vitamin D-fortified foods in the diet of adults over 65 will prevent low vitamin D status during the winter months.
This study will be carried out among 200 healthy volunteers aged 65 years and over, and will run from November 2024 through March 2025. Both groups will be monitored over 10 weeks, with check-ins by phone and two in-person study visits at UCC and UCD. Participants will receive dietary advice to improve vitamin D intakes and have their blood vitamin D levels, health markers, and anthropometric measurements tracked during the study.
