About this Event
Trussell's Together Garden: Designing for Togetherness at Chelsea 2026
Rob Hardy will share the story behind Rob Hardy & Co’s collaboration with Trussell for the forthcoming 2026 RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The garden is inspired by how food banks — and the people who support them — come together to help those on the lowest incomes. It’s a space that symbolises connection, compassion, and the belief that, when each of us plays our part, we can end hunger together.
The talk will explore how the garden’s design reflects the emotional journey of someone visiting a food bank — from that first moment of being truly listened to, to the wider support made possible by a community working together. Rob will walk through the design process, highlighting how planting, materials, and spatial elements were chosen to tell this story.
Expect insights into how benches, structures and unexpected planting combinations all play a role in expressing solidarity, resilience, and the power of collective action. The session will also reflect on how designers and architects can use their skills to support social change and create meaningful experiences for those who enjoy our buildings and landscapes — not through spectacle, but through thoughtful, human-centred design.
