About this Event

Join us for our Carbon Literacy Training session in Harrogate! Whether you're an individual looking to increase your understanding of carbon emissions or a business aiming to become more sustainable, this training is perfect for you. Learn practical ways to reduce your carbon footprint and make a positive impact on the environment with this unique opportunity to become a certified Carbon Literate Citizen!

Is this course right for me?

The course is essential for everyone! Carbon Literacy Training helps you to gain awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities and gives you the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis.

You may well already have an awareness about climate change but this accredited course is designed to help people gain a solid understanding of the key facts, so that you can be informed and confident talking about the subject with others.

It's especially useful if you have responsibility for sustainability and carbon reduction within your role, are looking at ways your workplace can be greener, or simply have a personal interest reducing emissions.

By the end, you should feel enabled and empowered you to take climate action and provide the knowledge, skills, and confidence to act and talk to others about how we can effectively support the UK's Net Zero target.

The aims of the course are to:

  • gain an understanding of the different greenhouse gases, where they come from and the impact they are having on our climate.
  • understand the impact that humans are having on natural cycles of weather and climate
  • know how you can reduce your carbon footprint
  • empower you to act and influence others.

What can I expect before, during and after?

Prior to the course, we’ll send links to watch a programme which is optional to watch but would benefit your learning on the day.

On the day we will cover:

  • the science and history behind climate change
  • local and global impacts
  • current climate policy: international, national & local
  • climate justice
  • company environmental plans/policy
  • positive climate actions we can take in the workplace and at home

We will incorporate breaks as needed.

After the course:

Attendees will need to complete a personal and group pledge, which will be submitted to the Carbon Literacy Project for assessment and certification. If your pledge is accepted, then you will receive a certificate confirming that you are a Carbon Literate Citizen! Certified ‘Carbon Literate Citizens’ understand how climate change will affect them, both geographically and locally. Individuals who receive Carbon Literacy training typically reduce their carbon emissions by 15-25% equating to 1 tonne of carbon for every year after their training – an amazing impact.
