Our Winter Speaker Series continues on March 20th with Abby Teaford. She has worked for The Zimmerman Center for Heritage since 2020 and now is the boat tour manager who leads the interpretative experiences aboard the historic Chief Uncas that cruises the Susquehanna. In 2023 Abby led a grant funded video project to document stories of Susquehannock descendants. She will speak on "The Susquehannock's York County Legacy."Many generations of native peoples' have lived their lives along the Susquehanna River in York and Lancaster county. Their legacy continues today in the lives of living descendants, the preserved landscape of their homeland, and the items they left behind. Whether they walked along the Susquehanna thousands of years ago, lived in thriving communities overlooking the river, or live their lives in today's society, their history and cultural heritage is still present today. Learn about the Susquehonnock people's last traditional community in York county in present day Native Lands County Park. Abby will share the story of York county's Native American history and provide resources to connect you with the Native American groups in the area that share a lasting legacy in our communities.
