About this Event
As spring finally arrives in New York, we begin to feel a sense of renewal and joy in the air. After an especially cold winter this year, the coming of spring feels even more meaningful.
In Japan, April is the season when cherry blossoms reach full bloom across the country. People gather beneath the blossoms to enjoy food, sake, and tea in a tradition known as hanami (cherry blossom viewing).
While Chanoyu is typically held inside a tea room, during this season it is also enjoyed outdoors. Tea utensils are placed in a special portable chest called a tabidansu, allowing for the experience of preparing and sharing matcha in nature.
For this month’s tea gathering, we will recreate the atmosphere of an outdoor tea setting (nodate) within the tea room. A tabidansu will be used to evoke the spirit of enjoying tea in the open air.
A light meal and sake inspired by hanami will also be served.
We warmly invite you to join us in sharing a bowl of matcha while celebrating the joy of spring together!
During this gathering, guests will enjoy:
- A serene and elegant tea ceremony demonstration
- The opportunity to enjoy freshly prepared matcha
- A beautifully arranged kaiseki-style Japanese meal reflecting the season
- An immersive atmosphere inspired by the refined beauty of wabi-sabi
