D. Zisl Slepovitch bands with his long-time fellow collaborative artist, fadolinist / violist / composer LJOVA (Lev Zhurbin) to release the 2nd volume of the music folio, Musical Treasures from Sofia Magid’s Jewish Collection - Klezmer Tunes from Belarus and Ukraine. A world’s first publication, this volume completes publication of all 92 instrumental pieces recorded by the eminent Soviet ethnomusicologist and linguist from Jewish musicians between 1928-38, and transcribed by Slepovitch (Concert key and B flat versions of each folio are available).
The collection contains both local Litvak pieces and tunes that were originally created elsewhere in Eastern Europe and made their way to Southeast Belarus. Zisl will give a brief talk and perform selections from Volume II together with LJOVA. The books will be available for sale at the event.
Adrianne Greenbaum, Professor of Flute at Mount Holyoke College, is the foremost pioneer of the klezmer flute tradition and a nationally acclaimed flutist and clinician, performing on historical instruments of the 18th and 19th centuries. Her other areas of specialization include Baroque and Salon music.
